Who We Are

Alpha Plus was established in Cambridgeshire in 2000 by Jane Youdale, the wife of Richard, the then headmaster of the King's School Ely. During its first years the organisation existed for the benefit of the pupils of the school and its International Study Centre, but thereafter it expanded its operation to students at other schools and with the help of a wonderful team of area coordinators Alpha Plus caters for schools and students throughout most of the UK. Richard and Jane remain an integral part of the business, however, Alpha Plus is now under the new ownership of Emma and Kevin Ryan. Emma has worked for Alpha Plus for the last three years as an area coordinator prior to which she was the Registrar of a leading independent boarding school, following a career in teaching. Kevin has retired from career in banking in The City where he also volunteered for many years as a mentor to young inner city students.

It has always been vitally important for Alpha Plus to build the closest possible relationship with the schools where our students are pursuing their education. We make a point of meeting with houseparents, tutors and teachers face to face on occasions when we visit the students at school.

Our host families represent a very special and hand-picked group who love the company of young people. Most of them either want to give another child the opportunity of sharing the home life of their own growing family or, if their children have already reached adulthood, feel that they can offer the safe and caring environment once occupied by their own children.
